Housing Options Guidelines - Dorian Montreaux - 08-02-2025 ![]() Once you have registered your residence with the Ministry's Census office, you're free to make your own threads within one of the sub-forum within the Residential Wizarding World forum. Simply choose the one that matches your residence's description (e.g., 'cottages' or 'estates'.This will be where all 'homes' of that type are OOC located, despite the IC geographical distances that exist. Note: Please do not make threads for anyone else's residence unless given permission to do so. Home invasions and the like are a part of life, but in this RPG, we still require consent. Once you are posting in a home that does not belong to your character, you must first be given permission to create such a thread. If there are reports from the owner of the home stating that you should not be creating threads for that particular residence, your thread will be deleted, no questions asked. Threads should be titled with the residence's address, then a hyphen before its actual title. E.g., 8 Brindlewick Dell (the address) - Winter Is Coming (your personal title) = 8 Brindlewick Dell - Winter is Coming || Bae There are many types of homes scattered all over the wizarding world, catering to all clientele. Below is a list of housing solutions and their descriptions to help you get a better idea of type of housing your character may like/be able to afford. Starter Cottages - 80ʛ - 100ʛ/year Usual occupants: Young wizards, couples starting out, ministry clerks Description: A modest, one (occasionally two) bedroom magical dwelling—typically stone or timber-framed, with a cozy hearth, crooked chimney, and, depending on the area, an enchanted herb garden out back. Often located on the outskirts of wizarding villages. Flat/Terrace Houses - 130ʛ - 200ʛ/year Usual occupants: Small families, professors, ministry employees, city-bound wizards Description: Compact urban flats or narrow terraced homes, often stacked in bustling, magical districts. Expect cramped staircases, squeaky floorboards, and neighbors just a silencing charm away. Charms may be needed to expand space on the interior. Townhome - 250ʛ - 400ʛ/year Usual occupants: Well-off families, merchant class, mid-sized families Description: Larger multi-level homes, often with two to three bedrooms, small private libraries, or studies. Typically situated in wizarding boroughs or upscale magical streets. Often comes with a modest yard or rooftop greenhouse. Country Homes - 300ʛ - 500ʛ+/year Usual occupants: Larger families, department heads, healers, apothecaries Description: Detached homes with lush plots of land, often warded gardens and fireplaces large enough to Floo through. May include magical barns or outbuildings, owl lofts, or potion sheds. Usually located in rural or coastal magical areas. Estate/Manor - 600ʛ - 900ʛ+/year Usual occupants: Old magical families, retired aurors, inventors Description: Sprawling ancestral homes passed through generations, with grand entrances, multiple floors, dedicated spell chambers, portrait galleries, and household elves. Often cloaked in ancient enchantments and family wards. Note: The field of 'usual occupants' is meant for demonstration purposes only and the lists are by no means exhaustive, but are meant to give an idea of the types of people who are likely to live in these places. This does not take into account characters who are able to save toward better housing solutions, those who choose to have roommates, etc. This is not intended to limit RP creativity but to add a bit of consistency and realism. |
