History:
Much of Dorian's early years were spent in his country of birth, France. Born to parents of moderate means, Dorian and his younger brother lived comfortable lives. While their parents weren't handing them everything they wanted on a silver platter, the boys never grew up feeling they really lacked anything.

For the longest while, Dorian had been a sickly child. In fact, from the ages of 4 - 7, it's safe to say that he spent more time in hospital beds than his own. Thereafter, he was pulled from formal education as his parents believed his constitution was too weak to withstand the rigours of a typical child's upbringing. His condition did improve while he was home, but this came at a cost to his mental fortitude. His mother, particularly, would fuss over him. Through her coddling and hypervigilance, the boy became convinced he really must’ve been dying.

This caused him to withdraw. He began to fear anything that ‘harboured germs’, shunning activities that might cause him to overexert. He began to mistake the natural reactions of his body to stimulus (such as a faster heart rate with excitement) for signs that his body was preparing to give out.

Seeing the error of this upbringing, his father sought to harden his son, insisting he be allowed to participate in sports and make friends. Dorian’s mother remained firm. She was adamant that it was all too much. She refused to work, sitting at his bedside day and night. She fussed whenever he tried to move too roughly, always reminding him he needed to rest.

Over the years, this stirred resentment in his younger brother, who felt neglected by their mother’s over-attention to Dorian. The brothers grew apart despite remaining in the same home.

At the age of 14, Dorian lost his mother to a magical illness she’d spent years concealing. It was then that he realised all her attention was a distraction from her own deterioration. His father forced him into school then. The family packed up and moved to England in search of a new start. He struggled to adjust at first. Both the language barrier and the thought of suddenly being exposed left him making a bad impression with many of his peers, who thought him strange.

It took some time, but Dorian found his footing. By the time he finished his course of study at Wizard University, many wouldn’t believe he was the same man who was once a boy metaphorically chained to his bed his whole life.

His upbringing gave him an interest in healing, and he has dedicated his adult life to this pursuit.

Prompt Response:
Dorian walked through the crowded London Street, blue eyes occasionally glancing down at his watch. It was rush hour, both in the streets and on the crowded sidewalks. Shoulders bumped and gazes met only briefly, and the city prepared to begin its workday. He wasn’t running late, not yet, but the man typically liked to be early to his office. More often than not, there were files waiting for his approval, reports made, patient correspondences, things he needed a moment to breathe before tackling.

He turned onto the street that houses St. Mungo’s, seeing the old abandoned department store come into few.

Ahead of him, a man staggered.

Dorian watched his swaying motion, hanging steps back while he assessed his condition. Muggle? Wizard? It was too risky a decision to make on a street known to be crawling with muggles. If it came to it, he would do what he could, but he wasn’t rushing to play hero.

“Oi! You! You there!”

He heard the voice, but never assumed it was directed at him, not until he felt a hand at his shoulder. A sudden force nearly spun him around.

Dorian blinked calmly at the man who stood a few inches shorter than himself. Wide eyes, dilated pupils, pale skin, and a slight tremor. Carefully, he removed his hand from the collar of his pressed shirt, smoothing away any wrinkles it might have caused.

“I saw you! Just down the street,” the man said, snatching his hand away.

“I don’t know you,” Dorian replied calmly.

“Bullshit.” His words slurred. “I saw you wave that stick of yours and them sparks!”

That stick of his? The faintest smirk tugged at the corner of Dorian’s lips, the ghost of a smile. There, then gone. A muggle. One who’d seen something but not him.

“Take care of yourself, sir. Get yourself to a doctor, you’re visibly unwell.” And with that, he turned and continued on his way.
