Student Application: William Arsenaut - William Arsenaut - 08-18-2025 ![]() General Information Character Name: William Arsenaut Age: 14 Date of Birth: 02 December 1905 Blood Status: Muggleborn Residence: Chéticamp, Canada Family: John & Mary Arsenaut (parents), Simon (younger brother), Elise (younger sister) Personality & House Preference Personality: If Will could care less, he probably would. It’s not that he doesn’t want to care. He has just learned that caring ends up either hurting you or wasting your time, so it’s just easier to go through the world without doing it. Instead, he focuses on enjoying himself, spending time with good people, saying yes to anything that sounds like fun, and focusing on the things he likes the best. You might find him studying if the subject is particularly interesting, but he’s more likely to be found swimming, spending time with friends, playing his fiddle, at a party, or taking naps in the sun. Sometimes, when he’s on his own and no one is looking, he can be found reading vehicle manuals or mechanical texts because he really did love doing that as a kid. Occasionally, he’ll tinker with something he finds broken. He’d never admit it aloud though. He’ll tell you he doesn’t believe in fate. He doesn’t believe in gods or religions. Nothing really matters in the end since things can be cast aside in a heartbeat. But the truth? It’s why divination is the only skill he’s really worked on. It makes the world feel less random and meaningless. He’s always looking for that insight, even as he shrugs you off for getting worked up over dumb stuff. Will is about as easy going as they come. Want to hang out? Great! Think he’s the worst person on the face of the planet? Cool, you’re entitled to your opinion. If things bother him, you’d never be able to tell, since he bottles that away deep inside. We’re all just here for a good time, not a long time, after all. History: Will has always had been shoes to fill. Born to a working class family on Cape Breton Island, he was always expected to follow in his father’s footsteps in the mechanical family business. He never minded though. He liked working with his hands and he enjoyed the puzzle that came with putting things together and making them work provided. His brother and sister came along in short order, and Will took to the role of big brother just as well as he did to mechanics. Sometimes, he felt like he half raised his siblings, always being the one to grab bottles or snacks and help with homework. He didn’t mind that either though. He loved his siblings and it felt good to help. It felt important. He was a good kid. Respected in his small town for being so responsible and following after his father and helping out anyone who needed it. Sure, sometimes weird things happened around him, but that wasn’t all that weird on the island anyway. Just one of those things. It all fell apart when he was eleven though. That was when the school representative showed up, explaining that Will had magic and was accepted to a school where he would learn to do something with that. It took some time to wrap their heads around it, but there was never any question that he would go. The magic part was less of a surprise than how his family shifted their focus. He’d been the go-to kid, the responsible one, the one you could bet on for so long that it was a shock when all of that shifted to Simon. Of course, he wouldn’t be following after his father now. Of course, he’d want to do other things. Of course, they didn’t need his help, he could just go prepare for school. Will liked Ilvermorny. It was a big change from his little town in Canada, but it was a good one. He found things that he liked, took to divination like a fish to water, and managed to find some friends who filled in the gaps that were left when his family shifted their focus. The next bomb was dropped during spring break in his third year. The family was moving to Ireland. He tried to argue that he didn’t need to transfer to some other school over there. They were magic; there were ways around that. But his parents weren’t hearing any of it. So off to Hogwarts he was going, whether he liked it or not. House Preference: Year Preference: 4th Prompt Response: Will stared at Gary, blinking. His friend’s words had come out a mile a minute and Will was still catching up. “You got detention nine times already? It ain’t that far into the year, b’y!” He shouldn’t be surprised, really. He knew Gary well enough to know that the kid didn’t need to go searching for trouble because it would come knocking at his door given time. He was a magnet for it. But still. Nine times was a lot. “What’d ya even do this time?” The list could be endless, though Will knew of a couple. He’d been there for a few of those detentions, the pair of them getting caught after wandering off where they shouldn’t be and a couple of times for being out after curfew. He would argue that those were school’s fault though, for making stupid rules like not going into the woods and curfews being stupid early. And for putting the pair of them in different houses, necessitating this whole sneaking around after hours thing. Really, these detentions were all the school’s fault. But that wasn’t going to help him or Gary right then, when detention was looming over them. One of them, anyway. “Okay, here’s what we’re gonna do,” Will said, thinking as fast as he could. “I’m gonna go back that way and see if I can interrupt… Who is after ya this time? Whatever, I’m gonna go intercept them and start askin’ them about class, okay? You go running in that direction and then pretend you’re, I dunno, readin’ or somethin’. Or find someone to talk to. If ya hear me say pickles, start runnin’ again.” It was a terrible plan. Will was not the come-up-with-a-brilliant-plan-off-the-top-of-his-head type of guy. But it was going to have to do for now because he could hear the professor coming around the corridor. He just hoped that if Gary went down, he wasn’t going with him.
