Professor Application: Roufas Bourne - Roufas Bourne - 08-18-2025 ![]() General Information Character Name: Roufas Bourne Age: 49 Date of Birth: 10/13/1870 Blood Status: Pureblood Residence: Bourne Family Home, Gannett Peak, Wind River Mountains, Wyoming Family: Mother Cassiopeia Bourne, Father William Bourne and 3 brothers: Jaysen, Victor, and Silas. Professorship Information Personality: Roufas seems dry and curmudgeonly at first, but he isn't as ill tempered as one might think upon first meeting him. Roufas grew up in America in large part, though his family have all attended Hogwarts owing to their British roots, and pureblood status. His childhood was a good one, and he grew up believing in people on a foundational level. Put in the work, and be judged on your contributions, not the status of your family blood line or other arbitrary qualities. Above all else, Roufas grew up hating a bully, both because he was quick to defend the weak but also because in his opinion, lots of bullies wasted honest talent on tormenting others. Just imagine the things one could do if they devoted that energy to more positive pursuits. After graduating Hogwarts, Roufas spent some time working with the dragons on his family's ranch. Since childhood, Roufas had always admired and been in awe of the creatures, keenly aware of their power and dangerous nature. He found that they were also intelligent creatures, and fully capable of bonding with a person to form a relationship more akin to friendship than pet and master. It wasn't just the dragons. Roufas loved animals and creatures of all kinds. For this reason when representatives of MACUSA approached him to join their ranks and help take down a dragon poaching ring, Roufas was all too happy to be sworn in. After all, there was nothing worse than a bully, and what was a poacher besides a kind of ultimate conclusion of being a bully? After his rookie year working to take down the dragon poachers, Roufas continued to work with MACUSA as an auror. Over the years, Roufas would become somewhat jaded and disillusioned with people in general. The years took a toll on him both mentally and physically. Roufas developed a somewhat dry and aloof demeanor, appearing contemptful of most. His cool, detached persona served him well as he apprehended many dark witches and wizards, but the price he paid was never truly gaining friends, never falling in love. He always felt isolated and alone. Life changed for Roufas when he accepted his role as Charms Professor at Hogwarts. He struggled at first to relate to and be able to communicate with his students, but eventually came to see them as the children he never had. His sense of pride in their accomplishments is fierce and deep. Despite finding new purpose in his career as an educator, Roufas frequently spends his time outdoors. He enjoys all manner of nature activities, preferring the solitude of the wilderness to the hustle and bustle of the castle. He is always quick to share these enthusiasms, however. Roufas maybe a man of many contradictions, but at his heart is a dedicated, loyal man ready to serve those around him. What subject are you applying for? Charms IC Reason to Teach: Rouufas was asked to teach as a favor to the Ministry. His experience as a former Auror, they feel is invaluable to help keep an eye on things ever since so much scandal erupted in recent history. Prompt Response: It was a largely quiet afternoon as Roufas sat enjoying his favorite light lunch: A cup of coffee with half a tuna salad sandwich and some pineapple. He was making a concerted effort to watch his waist line, ever since hearing a particularly snotty group of third year Slytherins snickering and making reference to him resembling a mooncalf. It stung, not because he was particularly hurt by the fact of students being...well, students. It was also not the fact that they were Slytherins being Slytherins. It was the uncomfortable realization that he cared. Roufas had a thick hide on him, or so he thought, but since taking his position at the Castle as a charms professor, there had been a subtle but noticeable change within him. He had softened somewhat in the weeks since term opened, and he knew it. These kids, for better or worse had become the children he knew he would probably never have. He watched on as he taught with an immense sense of pride in their growth that he kept guarded, close to the chest. It was jarring emotionally to realize that in such a short time he was investing so much of himself personally in their success. He did his best to outwardly maintain his appearance of a stern and curmudgeonly figure of authority, but it was very much crumbling as these kids found method after method each day to peel away the layers of detached professionalism his decades as an auror had coated him in. As he sat quietly reflecting on these thoughts, there was an eruption of laughter from the Gryffindor table. He looked up with an appraising eye, scanning the crowd of students eating lunch and spotted a couple. One older girl sat, smirking while those around them laughed heartily and a younger boy across stood red faced and shaking. "oh good, more students being students," he thought, much to his chagrin. Just then, a girl somewhere at the table yelped more in surprise rather than fear or injury as a large pumpkin creme pastry flew across the table, connecting squarely with her face. Normally, Roufas would laugh, and he did indeed stifle a chuckle as he looked on. But at that moment, all hell broke loose as the girl huffed, wiping the pale orange cream from her face, stood to her feet. It happened in a split second. A large serving bowl of soup turned into a missile, hurtling across the table and by that time there was no stopping the inevitable as foods of all kinds began to be hurled back and forth, splattering sometimes harmlessly on the floors and walls, but more often on students. The chaos went on for a few moments before Roufas stood, pointing his wand at his throat and muttered "Sonorus", bellowing in a magically amplified voice: "ENOUGH!!! WHAT'S GOT INTO Y'ALL," startling the students of his house into silent, statue still calm. "You know, sometimes y'all impress the hell outta me and other times I think if brains were leather y'all couldnt saddle a june bug," Roufas spat in frustration. It wasn't anger, but you wouldn't know it to look at him. Roufas desperately wanted to do well in this new career, and he was immensely perturbed at the embarrassment his house would bring upon him, but it was worse that he felt in some way he had failed them. "Clean this mess up, and don't you even think about getting the house elves to help," he said as he stormed out of the great hall to do what or go where he didn't know. |
