Welcome to Slytherin House.

My name is Emil Roan. You may call me Professor Roan, or simply professor. I will be your Head of House this year and for the foreseeable future. For those of you who are new to Hogwarts, whether you've just turned eleven or are transfering from elsewhere, I know you must have plenty of questions.

That's what office hours are for.

For those of you who are returning, you'll find that your previous Head of House is currently sitting in the dungeons of Azkaban. Those of you who will find the need to compare me to him, feel free to complain to him direcly. I'm not sure if they have visiting hours, but seeing as he's about to get his soul sucked out, I'd say you'd better hurry. I will also be taking over his role as Potions Master for the castle, so all potion-related things should be run through me.

Again, during office hours please.

Now, let us talk about the upcoming school year. Of course, you are all expected to maintain a full course load for the year. However, I wanted to highlight five classes in particular this coming term.

• This year, Charms will be run by the Head of House of Gryffindor. Professor Roufas Bourne, I believe. I don't know much about the man, of course, since all the houses recieved the same type of upheaval. But from what I heard, he's an American who worked with dragons. I'm not sure how that transfered to becoming a charms professor, but then again I'm not in charge of the hiring decisions within the castle. He seems nice enough, and his magic is a cut above mine when it comes to charms. Although, that should be obvious, shouldn't it.
  
  
• Trasfiguration will be run by... hold on let me check my papers here... an Etain Mómhar Battersea. I've heard the last name before, but I've been out of the country for the last decade or so, so you'll have to forgive me for being out of the loop. I can tell you that despite Professor Battersea being a woman, she's got quite a record of magical feats. Probably enough to transfigure any misbehaving students twice over without hesitation.
  
  
• And now we get to Dark Arts. I did not misspeak there, that was Dark Arts, not Defense Against the Dark Arts. Apparently the powers that be decided 'why defend against the dark arts when you could learn them instead'? I won't be questioning the wisdom of that move, nor do I expect to see Slytherins suddenly cursing each other and casting unforgivables in the halls. The professor, a Miss Laurence, is apparently quite well read. Another family name you might have heard, although don't ask me about that. I've barely the slightest. She'll also be doubling as the librarian so I expect you all to, again, respect office hours.
  
  
• Then we have Care of Magical Creatures. That will be down in the grounds of the castle being run by a Mr. Maddox Barlowe. I believe he's also the groundskeeper? I'm not sure. If you're curious, keep an eye out for the lethargic looking man with the two-year old walking around the grounds. I'm sure he won't bring his child to class, but don't quote me on that one. He seems to have an extensive resume when it comes to creatures so I'm sure class will be informative and safe. Again, don't quote me on that one either.
  
  
• And finally, we have Potions. That will be my domain, here in the dungeons. I have prepared a syllabus for you so you can look it over. Any questions, you can just come and ask me directly.

Extracurricular Activities look a little different this term. Due to the events of last year and the lower enrollment numbers, we will be halting Quidditch and Dueling until we can secure the magical wards. Instead, we have the below opportunities for a little fun:

Spellcasters Society: A club devoted to helping students improve their magical abilities. If you are interested in improving your spellcasting and want help in a safe and fun environment SIGN-UP today!

Library Assistant: This term, we will be reintroducing the Library Assistant role for all those who wish to help take a load off the librarian's shoulders. Check HERE for more information and to sign up.

Wandering Wands: The Wandering Wands are a group of students whose sole purpose is to learn the art of survival. They focus on emergency situations and how to overcome the challenges that may come about when magic cannot be relied upon. If you are interested, please find more information HERE

Feel free to come to me. As much as I insist on office hours, I will be there you in any emergency. Such is the nature of my job. You can contact me by knocking on my door or using the letterbox. If I'm not in my office, there is a button next to the door which you can press and it will let me know that someone is waiting for me. As long as I'm in the castle I will be alerted and head to you. Please use it in emergencies only. And please have the common sense to know what constitutes an emergency.
