The door to the Deputy Headmaster’s office sat partially open, which was strange enough that students would stop to peek in.

Inside, Gideon Blackwood sat behind his desk, sleeves rolled neatly to his forearms as he worked through stack of parchment. The man already questioning several choices made by both staff and students alike.

The office itself was warm despite the stone walls, lit by low lamps and the steady crackle of the fireplace nearby. Shelves lined with books, organized files, potion bottles, Tea and a suspicious amount of pink toys gave the space a more lived-in feeling than most students expected from him. Fiona had claimed her spot in the corner, a small child's table with an astonishing number of toys and every color imaginable in crayons.

Every so often, Gideon’s attention would turn toward the open doorway before returning to the parchment in front of him.

Office hours. A concept many students still seemed deeply suspicious of.

Still, the door remained open.

Whether someone needed academic help, guidance, permission forms signed, disciplinary discussions, or simply a place to sit quietly for a few moments, they were welcome to knock, or simply walk in, if feeling brave enough.

The entrance to the office of Professor Blackwood was unmistakable for any student of Slytherin House or Applied Magic navigating the dungeons.

During office hours, the heavy wooden door remained open unless the Deputy Headmaster was engaged in a private meeting. Outside of those times, students were required to deliver their letters to the door's sole attendant: a striking metal serpent head, fangs bared, affixed directly to the wood.
Gideon had named the imposing fixture Kaliya, after the furious mythological serpent from Hindu legend. It was Kaliya's hated task to receive all written correspondence from. Students would deposit letters into the serpent's open mouth, which would then be magically sorted on Professor Blackwood's desk.

As students walked the dungeon corridor, typically hugging the wall opposite the office, Kaliya would often let out a sharp, audible hiss at any who dared meet its angry gaze. Considering it was Kaliya’s job to interact with the students, they weren’t very good at it.[/gfont]

As you step across the threshold into the office of Deputy Headmaster Blackwood, the trademark green glow of the dungeon rooms immediately envelops you. This section of the castle, situated beneath the Great Lake, is inherently dark, an atmosphere magnified by the black marble floors, dark ebony furniture, and sharp, shiny silver finishes.

The space is impressively large, far more expansive than a typical staff office, allowing the Deputy Headmaster, Applied Magic Professor, and Slytherin Head of House plenty of room to pace, as he was known to do.

Dominating the center of the room is a large, ornate wooden desk and large green leather office chair. The desk is currently littered with the chaotic evidence of his multiple duties: the typical ink pot, quills, rolled parchments, and stacks of well used books. Though normally far tidier, juggling three distinct roles has clearly taken a toll on his cleanliness.

The office serves as an extension of his living quarters, a space where Gideon can hold meetings, dole out detentions, or simply unwind with a cup of tea (or whiskey). The air is thick with the distinct scent of Gideon Blackwood: rich leather, wood smoke from the fireplace, the dusty scent of first editions, and a clean, woodsy cologne. A faint hint of fine whiskey or aged bourbon is also present, though it’s a fragrance the students would be unlikely to recognize.

Behind his desk stand large bookcases filled with the works of Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Concealed behind one unassuming shelf is the discreet doorway leading to Gideon’s private living quarters.

To the right, floor-to-ceiling windows offer a mesmerizing view into the shadowy depths of the Great Lake. A selection of oversized, green leather sofas are positioned in front of a large ornate fireplace. More shelves could be found holding textbooks, journals and other classroom materials for the various classes taught at Hogwarts, including his new Applied Magic class.
