Walking into the greenhouse usually brought her peace.

Today, not so much.

It was the same as every other year. Weeds to pull. Potion ingredients to harvest. Plants to treat. Seeds to sow. Usually she couldn't wait to get her hands in the dirt. Today she wanted to scratch her name off the Hospital Wing signup sheet and crawl back into the Gryffindor common room to sulk.

"Ugggggh!"

This was her last year at Hogwarts, and she couldn't find it in herself to care.

The expectations were still there. Good grades. Pass her NEWTs. Be the perfect representative of both the Nordstrom and Zdravkova families. A year ago she would've rolled her eyes, muttered something rude under her breath, and done whatever she wanted anyway.

Now... Now it wasn't so simple.

She had a headache from trying to sort through everything rattling around inside her mind.

The etiquette course had changed more than she'd ever expected. It wasn't just which fork to use or how to greet a duchess without embarrassing herself. It was a whole new way of thinking. A thousand little expectations she'd never noticed before.

The worst part? Some of it had actually been... Fun.

She grimaced.

Not that she'd ever admit that aloud.

Then there had been the garden party. Beautiful weather. Beautiful decorations. Wonderful food. Everything had been perfect. Until Liliya had casually informed her that after the wedding she wouldn't be moving into a house somewhere with Drago.

She'd be moving into Harewood House. She hadn't even realized she'd been carrying that dream until someone took it away.

A little house. A garden. Just her... and Drago. Maybe children one day.

Much, much later.

Instead she'd be living under Oleg's roof. The thought still made her stomach twist.

Her outburst hadn't gone over well. Oleg had made certain she understood exactly what was expected of her. Ever since then, everything had felt... dark.

The excitement she'd finally started feeling about marrying Drago had become tinged with fear. It was easier when he was standing beside her. He somehow made all of it seem manageable. But he wasn't here now. He'd graduated. There would be no persistent Russian finding her in the greenhouse.

And Hogwarts now felt emptier without him.

sigh

A sound behind her pulled Matilda from her thoughts. Blinking, she turned toward the greenhouse entrance, forcing herself back into the present. A small smile finally appeared.

"Hey there." She brushed the dirt from her hands onto her apron. "Here to help me get this place back into shape?"

Cordis Vita (Life Heart Charm)

Stabilises arrhythmia/prevents relapse. This is a complicated spell that requires interaction with a patient's heart. As such, it should only be used as a last resort and only under the supervision of the school-appointed nurse. The worse the damage, the darker the red. If no such injuries are present, there will be no reaction to the spell. This is more useful, not when there is a physical blockage, but in the case of patients in respiratory distress due to mild to moderate inflammation of the lungs and muscles of the chest. This spell's effects work for up to an hour and may need to be reapplied depending on the patient's condition.

If wounds are deep or there is significant blood loss, this spell will not be effective.
Useful for patients who come in with few or one symptom/uncomplicated cases.
Tessutovero (Tissue Diagnostic Charm)

This is a truly versatile and indispensable charm. It reveals the presence of broken bones, clots, tissue damage, or inflammation within the target's body. The wand is drawn across the affected area. If any of these are present, the caster's wand grows warm and the area glows a pale red for no longer than a few seconds. The worse the damage, the darker the red. By volunteering in the hospital wing, students can advance through the school's medical ranks and learn increasingly difficult healing spells they would otherwise be unable to cast. Five tiers of spells can be unlocked, and this is done through volunteering. For each year that a student offers their services, it is assumed that they have picked up these healing essentials.

Whether your character has an interest in healing or just some free time on their hands, the hospital wing is a great activity to help them develop this area of their magic.

Once you have passed a year, a medical section will be added to your willow tree with all the new spells your character can cast both in and outside of the hospital wing.

Similarly, those working within the apothecary and greenhouses are capable of moving through the ranks, albeit in different capacities.

When considering the years of service, the student is able to effectively and efficiently cast anything in the year below the one they are currently in. They are able to attempt spells of the new service year but are not yet proficient to the point of certainty. At the end of that year, they will be considered proficient and the spells will be added to their tree.
At the time of sign-up, she would've had three previous years of experience under her belt. This makes her a newly minted "Adept Nurse" (4th year of service), however it is understood she hasn't yet learned many things for this new year. It makes sense then that she still has issues with the "Adept" spells. She may attempt them and have some success, but nothing is guaranteed, and failure is still expected. At the end of her fourth year, she will have "passed" her fourth year of hospital wing service. At this time, the spells will be added to her willow, and she will no longer have issues casting them as she moves up to the next rank of "Specialist" in the term after.

In the case of first-year volunteers, they may RP attempting the spells in Tier 1 and are even free to succeed from time to time! But, largely, they are not and should not be played as proficient and infallible as this is only their first year on the wing, and there's much to learn.

The tiers do not coincide with the year of your student.
