Galen’s office is tall and narrow, with old stone surrounding the room. Gothic arches rise above, drawing the eye upward before settling it firmly back down. The walls are lined with dark, wooden shelves, packed tight with books that have all been opened at least a hundred times each. The subject matter varies among generic academics and various types of magic. They are organized by subject matter and then the author.

Centered near the back of the room sits a very large, heavy oak desk. The top is never cluttered and usually holds at least one academic book, open to a page full of words that Galen has read thousands of times. An orrery, a sextant, and a few unidentifiable magical instruments are arranged in an intentional manner.

Behind the desk is a tall fireplace, crowned by a carved silver eagle with wings spread wide. It’s commanding more than anything else. When the fire is lit, the light throws sharp shadows across the eagle’s wings, making it appear watchful. On the mantle beneath are two candles.

Light is filtered through narrow arched windows, appearing muted. Even in daylight, the room favors lamplight; green-shaded desk lamps and low sconces that cast a steady, focused glow rather than warmth.

The floor is a dark Peruvian Walnut, and is covered by a rug in muted greens and charcoal. Galen’s chair behind the desk is high-backed and covered in dark leather. The wood frame has intricate carvings in it; eagles if you look close enough. The chair across from Galen’s is slightly lower, nowhere near as grand looking, however still beautiful.

The portraits of previous Headmasters hang on the wall, a ways from the desk so he does not feel their gazes upon him while he’s working. He pays them no mind, most of the time.

The scent in the room is of polished wood, spent magic, and smoke. His office is not a place for comfort or confessions, but decisions and certainty. Every inch of the office reflects the personality of the man who occupies it; controlled, disciplined, intelligent.

Any correspondence for the Headmaster can be placed next to the gargoyle that marks the entrance to his office. Once the letter is placed in the available basket, it floats up and straight to his desk.

Meetings are available upon request. He does not appreciate spontaneous meetings.
