Site Update: New Web-Based Codex Application

After months of discussions and several trials and errors, I am excited to announce the launch of a brand new codex to replace our previously clunky and unengaging Lexicon.

What's A Codex?

A living canon archive that is easy to navigate, and helps new and old players acclimate to the on-going stories we are telling.

The number one question we hear when getting to know a new member is, "Where can I read about the site plots and the people in it?" Previously, we were able to point that member to our Lexicon, a MediaWiki-based site that was, frankly, not very user-friendly and difficult for the casual user to navigate. We also had it admin-editable only to maintain the integrity of the Lexicon and how easy it was for the casual user to create broken pages and links inadvertently.

We wanted an additional web-based application that was nice to look at, easy to navigate and super simple for any member to be able to point and click and create the character and family pages that they wanted.

Features

We have quietly listened to feedback over the past several months, taking notes and ensuring that what we present to you in its beginning stages is exactly what you've been asking for.

Some fun features we are incredibly excited about:

A dynamic global family tree that shows how each of our families are connected.

A connection finder where any two characters can be selected and immediately view their familial connections (if any).

In-depth character pages with full biographies, the ability to differentiate birth families from adoptive and current, blood statuses, any previous names, Padlets, playlists, and so much more!

NPC character pages that will not show up in 'Featured Dossiers', but will show up in the global family tree for easier legacy navigation. This means your character's grandfather that they always refer to but isn't played on site can still show up in the tree!

In-depth family pages that users will be able to fully customize with mottos and histories and link to all of their played characters as well as NPCS.

Dynamic union creators that can not only list marriages, but liaisons, affairs, etc.

Individual ship trackers with links to chronological threads.

A Wizarding Magic Guide, developed by Dani and is continuously reviewed and updated.

A timeline section that will be following our site plots and lore in-depth and will be accessible at a click of a button.

Terms of Usage

We ask that each member only create and manage the pages of their owned families, characters and NPCs to ensure accuracy and copyright adherence.

The exception to this will be Admins who will have the capability to add, remove and edit all pages as necessary. We will do our absolute best to work with members before doing so, but there may be instances where we will need to take matters into our own hands. We will always be transparent about any changes we need to make with the member in question.

With that in mind, please reach out to Amber on Discord (@.ambers.) for login credentials. If you prefer to have the admins create and maintain your site pages for you, we are happy to do so. Just give us the friendly heads up.

Please keep in mind this is an ongoing work-in-progress project and will be updated and implemented with more features as time goes on.

Ready To Get Started?

So are we!

You can find the brand new codex ready and waiting for you to explore and have fun with here.

We are changing the way we do Hogwarts, in the middle of term. Because why not?

Please read the below so that we are all on the same page!

Immediate changes

None of our posted classes will host a lesson three.

The Admins have decided that this term we will only have two lessons in each class that you may post in. Because we are removing lesson three, you only need 10 points to be considered passing. If you had planned on catching up in lesson three, you can still pass once the lessons close by exploring each subject's extra credit opportunities. This does not change galleon claiming at the end of term.

If you have any concerns about this, please reach out to the Admin team.

Next term & beyond

Next term we will have no hosted IC subjects. This will give you the opportunity to focus more on personal plots and threads in the coming terms. All activities and clubs will continue.

We are still discussing what exactly this looks like in regards to galleons and prefects, but we will have something decided by the time term starts in May.

In the future, classes will return with potentially a new format, so stay tuned for more information.
