The Front Gates The wrought iron gates, flanked by stone columns and their watchful winged boars, open each first of term for Thestral-drawn carriages to pass through. Beyond them, the covered wooden bridge stretches to the entrance courtyard, rickety in appearance and immovable in practice, a small stone gazebo at its far end. The Quad sits peacefully at the base of the Clock Tower. Somewhere nearby, the Whomping Willow keeps its own counsel. First-years are invariably dared to touch the trunk. Most regret it.

The Lake & Waterfront The Black Lake stretches vast and still across the grounds, its dark and murky depths home to a giant squid, Merpeople, and things that prefer not to be named. The boathouse sits at the water's edge; first-years arrive here by boat on their very first night, though upperclassmen find their own reasons to linger.

Gardens & Greenhouses The walled garden offers a rare kind of quiet: manicured shrubs, fragrant roses, and small patches of grass for anyone seeking an escape. At its heart, an intricate hedge maze shifts and changes, and more than one first-year has emerged considerably humbler than they went in. Beyond the walls, seven glass greenhouses stretch along the grounds, warm and humid, thick with damp soil and plants that range from common lavender to species requiring protective gear and a certain amount of nerve.

The Forbidden Forest & Wilds The paddock sits at the forest's edge, home to the magical creatures of Care of Magical Creatures lessons, some curious, some beautiful, and some best appreciated from a distance. Beyond the fence, the Forbidden Forest begins: dark, densely wooded, and exactly as forbidden as the name suggests. Students are warned against entering on pain of detention, or worse. Most take the warning seriously. Most.
