Personality:
Rae can be likened to a firecracker, bright and energetic but chaotic. Her upbringing has left her with an iron will that sometimes drifts unbearably toward stubbornness. She likes to be around others, feeding off the energy of a crowd. Too much time alone gives her the opportunity for reflection and there’s nothing she’d rather avoid more. She presents as the person most needed in a situation, carefully concealing her own self (her wants, fears, etc.) behind a firm mask where no one is allowed to uncover it. Rae has never been one to back down from a challenge, a trait she had to develop from her time on the streets.
History:
Rae is and has always been a compulsive liar with fantasies running through her head. Her mother died giving birth to her, and her father was never in the picture to begin with. At the age of five, her grandmother passed away from a sudden illness. By the time a welfare check was done on the pair, it had been a month. The only thing they found was the deceased elderly woman as Rae had run away two weeks earlier. She was reported missing but with no one having really known her or wanting to be bothered, the case was never followed up on.
Rae spent the next years of her life evading anyone who appeared to have too much of an interest in her, surviving off the streets and her often sticky fingers. When thieving wasn’t enough, the tears of a thin little girl with moist eyes and a dirty face were often enough to land her what she wanted. Her lies stem from her insistence on living in a world of her creation rather than the one life has presented her. If one asks enough questions, they may realise perhaps nothing she said was ever true.
A less kind person may even describe her as feral, though the sentiment wouldn’t be entirely true. Rae has issues with impulse control, but has already begun receiving help with that.
She knows nothing of her family background and can no longer really remember her grandmother. This is a sore spot for her as her greatest wish is to have a family of her own.
Shortly after her 11th birthday, she was located by workers at the Ministry of Magic and, by her account, forced into provisional housing so she could begin her formal education with her cohort at Hogwarts.
During the summer before she started her formal magical education, Rae was adopted (again, against her will) and was expected to assimilate suddenly into the life and demeanor of a well-adjusted child.
Her earliest years at Hogwarts were volatile. She resisted at every turn and fell back on the instincts she'd learned during her time on the streets. This caused a lot of friction with those she interacted but in all the chaos, she managed to find friends and people who generally care about her.
Over time, she's mellowed out in meaningful ways while maintaining her edge and her fire.

Prompt Response:
"Please, Rae. You gotta help me out."
The tip of her quill moved smoothly across the parchment, thin lines of ink forming words that constituted a poorly written essay. Her handwriting was improving, becoming almost graceful and girly, though she did still occasionally struggle with the odd letter. The slender girl clinked the tip of her quill against the rim of her inkwell, listening to Allie’s mournful pleas.
By the sounds of it, her friend had found herself in quite the situation. A goodie-two-shoes like the Ravenclaw leaning toward her from across the table, nerves rattling from the threat of discovery and detention. Allie wouldn’t survive the dungeons. The fifth-year had a more…delicate constitution.
Yelling was often enough to draw her tears.
Detention, too.
“What’s in it for me?” Rae asked, never looking up from the page of her textbook that she was blatantly plagiarising. She didn’t have the time or the patience to explain the practical implications of Gamp’s Law on daily wizarding life. Most times, it wasn’t something that crossed her mind, let alone something she sought to engage with deep thought. As far as the girl knew, there were things she could do with magic and things she couldn’t do even with magic. Outside of that, it was all the same to her.
“I…well…um…wh—what do you want for it?”
Now, she was asking the right questions. In truth, Rae hadn’t wanted anything for it. Her favours all came from her own desires. She either already wanted to do the action or didn’t and couldn’t be bought. For a girl like her, the currency of favours only worked in one direction. She had long since realised that if you could be bought, then you were already owned.
But.
Rae slid the parchment across the table toward the girl, taking in the confusion that replaced her terror. “This is due tomorrow after lunch. Get it done before then, and we’ll consider ourselves squared.”
If the girl was willing, there was no reason for her to refuse.
