Fortune Telling | Matilda

What was the headmistress to do when everyone was laughing and having fun at the Carnival? Well, Ruby had been hesitant to leave the castle, however it was awfully quiet seeing as everyone was outside. So the woman made her way down to the event and took in the sights. The Prefects had done a fantastic job, and all the students looked extremely happy to be there.

The sight, honestly, brought a smile to the woman’s face.

She may as well see what everyone was doing. From a distance she could see the Deputy at the dunk tank, soaking wet from just being freshly dunked in the water. She laughed, and continued down the walkway, her eyes scanning the area to ensure everyone was having a great time. And, most importantly, be safe.

“What… is this…?” Ruby said softly under her breath as she approached the red and white tent. A familiar redhead sat at a table. Fortune Telling?

“Okay, Miss Nordstrom, I will bite,” she said and sat down. She looked at the cards and pointed at the one on the far right. “This one,” she said, tapping it.

Tilly sat in the tent, shuffling the cards over and over. So far, this had been a lot of fun. And nowhere near accurate, but honestly that was half the fun. That being said, she would 100% find the outfit pictured on Benji’s card and buy it for his birthday. Shorty shorts and all.

The tent flaps fluttered with a new victi… patron. “Hello Headmistress, nice to see you today. Pick a card, any card.”

Well shoot, the Headmistress. That was… a little intimidating. What if she pulled a horrible card? Looking up at the lady in front of her, she smiled shyly. “Okay, Miss Nordstrom, I will bite,” she said, sitting down. Looking over the cards in front oh her. “This one.”

Pulling the card out, Tilly stared at it, then looked at her guide. The Knight of Swords. “OH, nice. I like this one… but it is in the reverse position, so let me see."

After going over the guide, Tilly was a little hesitant to tell her what it meant, but it wasn’t like there was any truth to the fortune. “Ok, so this is the Knight of Swords. The card means determination, ambition, success, but it’s reversed. So, I see Extravagance and Tyranny in your future. Not, like… you. Maybe someone you know? There is someone ready to start a fight… But, it also has a horse in it, and swords. So maybe you’re going to learn to ride? I wouldn’t worry too much. Everything will totally be fine.”

Tilly had done quite a few reading, all the same. Funny cards with funny fortunes. This one felt different. This one felt… right.
