Professorship Information
Personality:
Maddox is neither strict nor lenient, but indifferent. Some may even say he is too lazy to be either and they would, to a greater extent, be correct. Believing that experiences are life’s best teachers, he is unlikely to breathe down the necks of others or to hold their hand through the process. Once he has given information/instructions, he expects that to be the end of things and is unlikely to follow up unless there is need. That said, he is a man who likes to have things done well and expects a certain standard in everything. Upon finding out that things are not done to standard, he will not let it rest. What stands in the way of him going militant or him caving to every plea and cry boils down to the same core factor; he doesn’t have the energy for it.
The man is often too tired to lay into anyone and is similarly often too tired to go above and beyond with exceedingly generous gestures. It is for this very reason that when he is forced to become more serious (such as in the case of a student drawing his ire), they will see a cooler side to the man than his typical nonchalance and indifference. He does not enjoy such moments and often requires naps after, which only makes him more irritable when such moments arise.
He is also the sort to see a student post-failure/injury, lean in, and ask with no particular concern “what have you learned?”. He does care for the success of those in his charge. He’s just so tired most times and doesn’t have the energy for the larger ups and downs that can become exhausting to him very quickly. Despite this, he is serious about passing on a sense of responsibility and accountability. He is also surprisingly strict with his rules for a man who gives off such a laid-back vibe because he likes to maintain order. Order is not loud. Order is not disruptive. Order does not require effort on his part. That’s what he likes.
Another notable area of his personality is his dry, sometimes biting humour.

IC Reason to Teach:
Maddox found his time after Hogwarts to be very fulfilling. He was able to land several internship opportunities that took him into the presence of all sorts of creatures. It deepened his appreciation and connection and stirred (if only ever so slightly) a desire in him to pass along this appreciation. He wants to lead the next generation of wizards and witches into a more informed and understanding approach to all sorts of creatures. Where necessary, he also wants to instill the sort of caution that will prevent future accidents that will then negatively impact the creatures—and of course, the person they end up mauling…sort of.
Prompt Response:
"You keep this up, you'll put Gloria's out of business," Maddox said with a wry smile as Julia concluded a tale of a student she'd allowed into her office and gave sweets. It was true. Tough as his best friend could be, she had a soft spot for the little spawns of satan that would soon see her running her own children's home like the one over in Hogsmeade.
Propped up by one elbow on the table, his other hand lazily fed another spoonful of his soup into his mouth.
"Careful, they'll never leave you alone once they figure out you like them."
He saw she made to respond, but in a split second, chaos erupted.
Maddox hadn't been paying enough attention to see whatever drove such a sudden escalation to bits of breadroll and chicken parts flying. All he knew was that children were quickly becoming covered in pumpkin juice and everything that used to be on their plates.
The corner of his lips curled by the faintest degree in derision, masked by the pervasive fatigue that clung to him.
Was a quiet lunch really too much to ask for?
“I suggest we all remember where we are. And what day it is.”
Ever the responsible professor. Maddox slumped back in his chair, waiting for the students to course correct themselves on Julia's words alone. He didn't want to be involved, nor did he think he was obligated to be. Somewhere down the dais, he could hear they're actual head of house doing what he could to rein them in and well...there was a saying about too many cooks being let into the kitchen.
He could do without all the yelling, though. Ears as sensitive as his began to ring the moment the first battle cry rang on and showed no signs of letting up so long as anarchy persisted.
In another moment, he would silence the entire table, glue them to their chairs if he must.
For now, he would let the others handle it.
