Common Room Description

The Hufflepuff common room is entered from the same corridor as the Hogwarts kitchens. Continuing past the large still life that marks the entrance for the kitchens, sits a pile of large barrels stacked in a shadowy stone alcove on the right-hand side of the corridor.
The barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open if tapped in the rhythm of ‘Helga Hufflepuff.’ To prevent non-Hufflepuff entry, a security measure was put in place. By tapping the wrong barrel or the incorrect number of times, one of the other barrels will open up and drench the trespasser in vinegar.

A sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel travels upwards a little way until a large brick walled room comes into view. The Hufflepuff common room sits below ground level, creating a den-like atmosphere. The windows sit high above the ground, casting a sunny glow over the room.
Decorated in shades of yellow, accented with black and filled with plants gives the room an earthy feel. The ceilings are high and arched with accents of wood beams and metal fixtures. Plush yellow sofas, leather arm chairs, small round tables and bookshelves decorated around the space make for a cozy home away from home for the badgers.

The room is accented in the bee-like colours of yellow and black, emphasized by the use of polished honey-coloured wood for the furniture and the rounded doors that lead to the boys’ and girls’ dormitories. A large brick fireplace sits center stage to heat up the room on the cold winter nights.
A colourful abundance of plants seem to love the atmosphere of the Hufflepuff common room: many of them waving and dancing at passers-by, while copper-bottomed plant holders dangling amid the ceiling cause tendrils of ferns and ivies to brush your hair as you pass under them.
