Food Stalls & Rest Area

Smack dab in the center of the carnival, lies a fantasy land of every taste, texture and temptation imaginable; a roaring-twenties paradise for the gluttonous and the curious alike.

The air is thick with the glorious scents of joy itself, fried dough, burnt sugar, citrus, roasted meats and buttery delights, accompanied by the sounds of brass from a jazz band that refuses to play anything slower than a heartbeat. Tiny gilded bulbs float overhead, twinkling like fireflies, illuminating the long wooden tables and benches that await beneath them. Mason jars filled with house-colored liquids somehow glow on and off sporadically, making the entire area feel like a colorful dance hall.

Along the perimeter awaits various food stalls - all done up in art-deco filigree - their vendors shouting out orders above the music. One sells molten squares of chocolate that fizz on one's tongue before bursting into harmless, glittery fireworks.

Next to the fudge stall is the popcorn stand, where the kernels crackle into whatever flavor one is craving. Butter? Caramel? Dill pickle? Cheese? Roasted Lamb? The popcorn is your oyster.

Across the way, a rather excited vendor spins his waffles mid-air until the customer catches one on a plate - each delicious pastry containing its own unique charm. Perhaps yours will meow, or giggle when you stick your fork in it?

There's a stand dolling out large roasted turkey legs and ears of corn, all dripping with juice and sending up savory smoke that entices everyone that walks by. A lemonade stand offers giant tubs of the tart drink, filled with fresh fruits of every kind.

Finally, an ice cream tent serves up giant sprinkled cones topped with dozens of flavors to choose from, all enchanted with its own little snow cloud to ensure the treat won't melt before the consumer can fully enjoy it.

In the center of it all is a wide wooden dance floor, encouraging participants to come and show off their best moves to all of their friends. Maybe, if they're lucky, the band will finally decide on a slower tune; something soft enough for hand-holding and shy smiles instead of twirls and laughter.

The Prefects in charge of this area are Rosalie Laurence and Alice Ravenstone.
