Personality & House Preference
Personality:
Silas has always been a bit more bookish and less social than those around him. Even for his family, he tends to prefer the comfort of books, good food, and the company of animals than to people. Although introverted, he can stomach social occasions when needed. The company of one or two people doesn't seem to bother nearly as bad as a crowd. This also means he is fiercely independent and doesn't follow the lead of anyone else easily.
Along with his introverted nature, Silas is also intuitive. He easily picks up on subtle body language and can read between the lines in a conversation when around people. It's with this intuitive nature that he can often be direct and blunt as he sees little point in subtly during conversation when directness will often lead to getting to the point much quicker as well as the conversation ending faster. This can make him come off as rude.
Silas is not quick to speak. Often choosing his words very carefully before deciding to engage in conversation of any kind. This holds true with everyone, from his friends and family to even his teachers. He rarely ever volunteers to answer a question before having thought through the answer thoroughly. This also can cause him to over analyze or overthink a given situation.
Most of all, Silas is very preceptive and prefers adaptability to given situations rather than ridged rules. He loves being spontaneous and flexible when the situation calls for it. This allows him the opportunity to be creative and inventive with his ideas and conversations.
History:
Born to a pureblood family, the LaCroix's, Silas is the eldest of the two children his parent's have currently with another child on the way. His parents met their last year at Hogwarts and although they had known of one another from years past, it was their last year at Hogwarts that they really connected and fell in love. After Hogwarts, Abraham lived in the estate that he had inherited from his late mother and father. Being a very affluent family and a pure-blood, Abraham provided a comfortable and posh life for Mary who had also hailed from a pure-blood family. a year after they had married, Silas was born. He was always an inquisitive child. After he had turned 1 year old, Silas was raised and taught by his family's Governess, Lenore. She had a spark of curiosity and desire for more knowledge that matched Silas perfectly. She treated Silas as if he was her own, and in many ways, he considered Lenore to be more of a mother to him than Mary.
Growing up, Silas only saw his mother an father during appointed times like meal times and tea time as well as important social events. This wasn't unusual for someone raised in upper society like the Lacroixs. Silas still considered Lenore to be his mother figure when it came to the person he was closest to. She was firm, but fair minded and instilled in him the importance of hard work and a keen, well read mind. She made sure that any pure-blood or class-based biases that the LaCroix's may have had were stomped out of Silas. Lenore taught him math, reading, and even different languages and world history both muggle and wizard alike. She never taught him magic as she was a squib, but she still taught him magical theory and the basics where she could.
Silas' abilities and magical potential showed up rather early. Although not consistent by any means, he had shown magical potential from the time he was merely 7 years old. He had wanted a specific book that Lenore had forbidden him to read as it was too 'mature' for one as young as him, but he was able to summon it to his hands while her back was turned. This happened off and on for a few years with similar circumstances. It usually involved a book of some sort in some way. One time he even made a book come to life and start telling him the story within it's pages.
Silas got his Hogwarts letter like everyone else. Although Lenore showed way more enthusiasm than his parents, they were all still very proud for him. Now, he is nearing the end of his first year with many stories to tell. He has learned so much over the past few months and is looking forward to next year. Silas had heard about what had happened with the former headmaster, but Silas was largely oblivious to the situation as he had little care for political issues, even if they were very central to the school. He considered that sort of stuff a problem for adults to worry about. As long as he could continue to study magic, read books, and learn more about the magical world around him, he didn't really care who was headmaster of the school.

Prompt Response:
The day Silas got his Hogwarts letter was one that he remembered quite fondly. Although he was informed by his mother and father that it would be arriving soon, he wasn't entirely sure what to expect or if he would even be chosen to go to Hogwarts. Magical talent didn't grantee a spot at Hogwarts and Silas was a bit nervous. Fall hadn't yet came and the heat of the summer still lingered in the air. Lenore, the Ollivander's Governess, had already started teaching Silas and his sister, Selene, music theory, when their butler came and interrupted their study session with a letter marked with a large 'H' on it.
Silas immediately jumped up and could hardly contain himself. Running over to his families' butler, Silas snatched the envelope away in a mad hurry and tore the letter open with a frenzy. He read over the letter quickly, eyes popping open as wide as they could. "I actually got in!" he exclaimed. Silas was rarely a loud child, but in this instance he was louder than he had ever been; even when he was a baby crying for his mother.
Silas's parents came down, hearing his shouts of jubilation, and asked to see the letter. Silas immediately passed by his parents and ran straight to Lenore and embraced her with a big hug, something Silas was instructed to never do as physical affection was frowned upon in his house. For a moment, they were both the happies they had ever been in 11 years.
